Creeping, Crawling, Nursing?

File this under the "crazy stuff I see at work" basket.

I spend time in strangers basements, lately, and I found this dude hanging out in the window.
It took me aback, because I didn't realize the Northeastern US had spiders this big.


The Nursery Web Spider, pisaurina mira, is from the family pisauridae, which includes fishing spiders and raft spiders. It is a hunting spider, only spinning webs to mate and suspend egg sacs, not to entrap prey. It looks terrifying, but like most spiders in New England, this one is mostly harmless.
